I have recently created a Blog Post on Venus enters the Vedic Sidereal Astrology sign of Libra. And I said in that I have been really struck by the accuracy of the Vedic Sidereal Zodiac. I really felt the energy of Venus entering and then continuing through the Vedic sidereal sign of Libra from 2nd September. Venus is debilitated in Vedic Virgo which is the sign before. The energy and events that arose were strikingly different.

And let me say, though, the Western Astrology completely fails to declare or explain the unusual circumstances of my birth.
And what turned me on to Vedic Astrology was when I discovered that only Vedic Astrology does declare them.

And that is that Vedic Astrology includes the immeasurably powerful term ‘The Gandanta’ the immaterial and insecure transition point between a water sign and a fire sign using the sidereal zodiac, namely: Pisces to Aries, Cancer to Leo and Scorpio to Sagittarius.

A child born with a planet there knows that this world is not there for him or her. BUT this person does have the special twist: the fact that such a birth means that they can be open to Inspiration. They can be open to what lies beyond this world: Buddhist term it the Void. Hinduism speaks more of the God realm: Shiva and Shakti endlessly mating to produce the universe; Lord Vishnu lying back in ecstasy dreaming Universes in and out of being.

And the important fact is that a person will feel the Gandanta effect if their planet is plus or minus four degrees from the water sign/fire sign transition point. BUT the closer the planet is to the zero point, the stronger will be the Gandanta effect. My Moon is at 29 deg 56 mins Vedic Sidereal Pisces. So, the Gandanta was vast in my birth and the my life (mother homeless, in foreign land.
And the important follow on is that it is from the position of the Moon in our birth chart that the immeasurably powerful Vedic Predictive periods start. So, anyone born with Moon at the very end of a water sign such as Pisces/Cancer/Scorpio, will start their life at the end of Mercury Predictive Period (Mercury Dasa), but they will soon enter the next predictive period which is the fated and immaterial Ketu Dasa. And it is so extra hard for a child to cope with what Ketu Dasa may bring.

So, having said that Vedic Astrology contains special vast insights that Western Astrology does not. So, let me explain the difference, and then present the two different zodiacs to you:

The Tropical Zodiac of Modern Western psychodynamic astrology:
Modern Western Astrology uses the Tropical Zodiac. This is the Zodiac whose start point (zero degrees Aries) is based on the position of the Sun on the day of the Vernal Equinox each year. This means that western astrology has a sun-based focus and thus Western Astrology depicts our ‘Egoic Self’. When expertly interpreted, Western Astrology therefore accurately depicts our psychological make-up, the sub-personalities within us and issues of individuation and wholeness. It encompasses our sub-personalities and psychosynthesis and also understanding of ‘nature versus nurture’ agendas in our lives. Western astrology is thus used to erect our Birth Chart, also called Natal Chart or ‘Radix’, and also to predict what will happen in our lives based on Transits and Progressions. Modern Western Astrology also includes, of course, the outer planets: The Gods of Change, whose energy entered human conscious awareness at the times in history when they were effectively discovered: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, and crucially, also: Chiron, the Wounded Healer.
Modern Western Astrology also includes a dimension of Evolutionary Astrology: a statement of how past life scripts influence this life, but it is important to note that this is evaluated in terms of the psychological results of past live scripts, rather than the more destiny-orientated past-life-based-consequences, scripts and challenges/opportunities of incarnational life purpose stated by Vedic Astrology.

The Sidereal Zodiac of Vedic Astrology:
Vedic Astrology, on the other hand, properly uses the Sidereal Zodiac. The Sidereal Zodiac is a different 12-sign zodiac from western astrology’s Tropical Zodiac. The two are currently 24 degrees apart, so please note that this means that your planets will often be described as in different signs. This is because the sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology is fixed: it is anchored to a fixed star (the position of the starts is relatively fixed: their movement is far more slow than the movement of the Vernal Equinox position which is the start point of the Tropical Zodiac). Thus, the Sidereal Zodiac is a statement of the Eternal. This is in contrast to the Tropical Zodiac of western astrology, which is moving: it moves a degree every 72 years in relation to the fixed stars, and its start point is that point in the heavens that the Sun occupies on the first day of Spring, and because it is solar-based it is (as explained above) ‘ego astrology’ It is most important to note therefore that the scope of Vedic Astrology is immensely vaster than the egoic, psychological western astrology – though this is not to de-value the crucial contribution of Western Astrology. And because the Tropical Zodiac of Western Astrology is based on a moving start point in relation to the fixed stars, the two zodiacs are diverging, and at the present the two zodiacs are 24 degrees apart.

The Lunar Zodiac – The Nakshatras: Additionally, please note that Vedic astrology also employs an even more ancient zodiac: the immeasurably powerful and beautiful lunar zodiac of 27 signs – The 27 Nakshatras. The Nakshatras depict our emotional realities in a magical and dream time way that is pre-solar, pre-logical and pre-linear, and is hugely accurate, powerful and meaningful. It is graphically realistic and thus depicts our emotional self and consciousness in a way that is very ‘warts and all’, though it is nevertheless orientated to the possibility of growth: to growth of our consciousness and awareness; to growth of our handling of our emotional selves. The positions of the lunar signs were more easily visible to very ancient astrologers because they are quite simply the position of the Moon in the heavens on each of the 27 days the Moon takes to orbit the Earth. Because the lunar signs are so ancient, they are powerful and magical and pre-rational, and each of them has a power animal that can be used for many purposes of understanding, including the identification of the best marriage partner for you. Each of them has a ruling deity. For fine-tuning, each is divided into four ‘Padas’ or ‘portions’. This system is immensely sophisticated in the techniques it uses such as Navtara, Nara chakra (health statement) and Nadi Nakshatras. Its vast and sure systems of sign rulerships and qualities throw immense meaning onto our lives. Once you have seen what Nakshatras analysis offers, you’ll see that you can’t do without it. N.B.
