There’s a Solar Eclipse on 6 January 2019 (it’s on 5th January in USA) which is of great significance in our lives.

This is because it ushers in the truly awesome upcoming Saturn-Ketu-Pluto great conjunction that is forming now out of this eclipse and springs into great force in our lives from April 2019 onwards.

So, a Solar Eclipse is a New Moon, and its on 6.1.2019 at 01.25 hrs in Sligo, in the beautiful West of Ireland. It’s at:
21 deg 17 Vedic Sagittarius (Sidereal Zodiac), in PurvAshadha Nakshatra.
15 deg Capricorn in Western Astrology (Tropical Zodiac).

And this Eclipse will be actually visible in the following areas of the Earth, although all of us will be affected by its energy:

So, see below for my YouTube Video about this Eclipse, then following that there’s the charts in both Vedic and Western Astrology, and following those there’s a presentation about how to analyse the nature of Eclipses and the detail of this Eclipse, and most importantly, there’s an introductory note about the fact that this eclipse ushers in the great upcoming Saturn-Ketu-Pluto conjunction in Vedic Scorpio, in PurvAshadha Nakshatra, and there’s also more detail about PurvAshadha at the foot of this blog post.

First of all, here’s the video:

Here is the Vedic chart for this Eclipse:

And here is the Western chart for this Eclipse:

So basically, if you’re wanting to understand an eclipse, and what effect it will have in your life, here’s some key questions you should ask, but first of all, before we look at the key questions: what exactly do we mean by the ‘effects’ of an eclipse?:

Well, the energy of an eclipse is about the release of dammed-up tension. It’s like an earthquake that releases tension that’s built up in the earth’s crust due to two masses of rock moving against each other.

So, if you are in a good state in a life area affected by an eclipse, the effects of an Eclipse can be wonderful and liberating.

But if you are in a mess or gone wrong in your life in the life area affected by an eclipse, the effects can be catastrophic, and you will experience downfall.

AND the key thing is that there’s deep spiritual perception to be learned either way, when you experience an eclipse that affects key areas of your birth chart or that activates or increases features of your current predictive astrology.

So, here are three areas you can check out about an eclipse:

1. What is this eclipse’s nature? Zodiacal degree, location, full or partial, period of visibility, etc. Is it Solar or Lunar? If its Solar, like this one, its personal effects are often more muted, and often more aligned to political events. If it’s Lunar like the eclipse later in January, then its effects are more personal, huger and longer-lasting.

Check the positions of the Sun and the Moon, Rahu and Ketu the North and South Nodes of the Moon Eclipse, and also the Eclipse Ascendant. Then you see if these conjunct or oppose any planets in your natal chart.

2. Next, work out whether it will affect you? And if so, how will it affect you?
Your Planets: So, first, to work out whether an Eclipse affects you, check whether it eclipses/conjuncts or aspect one of your natal planets? This is because each planet is a vital force in our life. Some of our planets are in good standing; other of our planets are in a mess in our life destiny, and we are here to experience that, learn about the key spiritual nature of a planet, grow that planet. There is the perfect Divine Nature of each planet, and then there’s how we personally experience the nature and energy of a planet through the ‘filters’ of sign, house and aspect, etc. There’s some further notes, below, about how to analyse the actual manifestation of a planet in your Vedic birth chart and in your life, below. An do make sure to see my on line presentations of each planet, and enrol for one of my courses to learn this genuine beautiful material: Learn how to read your birth chart by enrolling on one of my one-to-one supportive courses in both western and Vedic astrology:

Your Houses: Next, check what House in your Vedic birth chart does the eclipse occupy? This is because Houses are about areas of life.
Your Nakshatras: The Nakshatras are the wonderful, incredibly powerful and deeply accurate Lunar Zodiac of Vedic Astrology. I have a course to teach the 27 Nakshatras and then in Part 2, the breathtakingly eye-opening techniques of Nakshatra interpretation in your life. See: wonderful Nakshatras Course: www.mastervedicastrology.com/nakshatras

3. So, how do you analyse the effects of an Eclipse a bit deeper, in your birth chart and therefore in your life?
Well, as I said, essentially to analyse an Eclipse, you look at whether the Eclipse’s Sun or Moon in the heavens, conjunct or oppose any of the planets in your natal chart. Then you definitely need to look at the House in your Vedic birth chart that is affected by the Eclipse. That shows the Area of Life affected.
But then for decent level of analysis, you need to consider the effect of the Eclipse on the ruling planet of that House, and in addition on the Houses in your birth chat affected by that ruling planet (The Houses it rules and the House it occupies in your natal chart). And you need to take into account any of your natal planets occupying that House where the Eclipse is, also any planets in aspect to the affected planet. Also, most importantly, the area of life that the affects planet is a karaka (natural indicator) for, or a charakaraka for (totally special indications of how a planet will perform in what area of your life, in a way that’s individual to you. And most certainly, you must consider if the affected planet plays a role in your life in that it rules your current predictive period in Vedic astrology, called a Dasa (and these have sub-periods, each with their own planet ruler).

And, as I said, you also need to bring into the analysis, the Nakshatra in which the Eclipse falls. So, just to tell you a bit more about the Nakshatras, the Nakshatras are the wonderful 27 Sign Lunar Zodiac of Vedic Astrology that depict so accurately, warts and all, our emotionally-based nature. And you also have to consider the effect of an eclipse on the ruling planet of that Nakshatra, the other Nakshatras that that ruling planet rules. And also, any of your natal planets occupying that Nakshatra. Learn the Nakshatras: Enroll on Michael Conneely’s wonderful Nakshatras Course: www.mastervedicastrology.com/nakshatras

So, this summarises as a checklist to analyse the following seven factors:

Any of your Natal Planets aspected by:
1. Eclipse Sun
2. Eclipse Moon
3. Eclipse Nodes
4. Eclipse Ascendant
PLUS:
5. Your natal House containing the Eclipse, plus its Ruler and occupants
6. The Nakshatra containing the eclipse, any of your natal planets occupying that Nakshatra, plus other Nakshatras with same Ruler
7. Future Effects

By Item 7, ‘Future Effects’, I identify the important fact that Eclipses leave an area of stagnant energy in the Heavens, waiting to be triggered or activated by upcoming planet events in that portion of the sky.

The upcoming Saturn-Ketu-Pluto conjunction:
So, this brings us to the fact that there is a most important unique feature to bear in mind when studying this particular eclipse. It ushers in the huge fierce vast-effect upcoming SaturnKetuPluto conjunction.
This is because this eclipse is in Vedic Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter), in PurvAshadha Nakshatra (ruled by Venus) where a huge conjunction is forming now between transiting Saturn-Ketu-Pluto in the Heavens, and this conjunction springs into great force in our lives from April onwards, in the Houses in our birth chart affected by the Conjunction, and especially if we have natal planets in those Houses.
So, you need to develop very good and careful perception at this stage of what the sign Sagittarius means in your individual Vedic birth chart?
What part does Sagittarius’ ruler, Jupiter play in your birth chart?
What Houses in your chart does Jupiter rule or occupy?
Especially note if you are in a Jupiter predictive period, called a Jupiter Dasa (or sub-period).
Does PurvAshadha Nakshatra play a particular role in your birth chart?
What part does Venus the ruler of Purvashadha play in your life?
And note if you have planets in the other Nakshatras that Venus rules: Nx 2 Bharani and Nx 11 PurvaPhalguni.
N.B. Please do make sure to see my upcoming separate video totally dedicated to this major Saturn Ketu Pluto conjunction, and who will be affected, and how.

Planets: if one of your planets is affected by an eclipse, look at the house it occupies in your Vedic birth chart, the houses it rules, and above all the nature of the planet.

See my video and Blog series on planet natures, for example, your Sun:

You need to take into account the Nature of that planet. Here are some simple points:

Planets as Indicators/Karakas:
And here is a simple Table of planet indicators or ‘affairs’ or ‘karakas’, what a planet NATURALLY indicates:

Sun – soul, confidence, generosity, power, ego, father.
Moon – feeling/emotions, connection, family, others, mother.
Mars – vitality, focus, aggression, logic, innocence, friends, brothers.
Mercury – speech/communication, skills, intellect, flexibility, humour.
Jupiter – wisdom, meaning, optimism, children, teachings.
Venus – pleasure, sex, happiness, beauty, comfort, laziness, lovers.
Saturn – Lord of Karma, fear, hard work, commitment, stress, isolation, old people.
Rahu – North Node of the Moon: Incarnational life direction this time. Driven obsessions, fears and illusions, attachment, connection to dark mass movements, exaggeration, expanded perception.
Ketu – South Node of the Moon: Past Life, meltdown and suddenness, spiritual light-bringer, dissatisfaction, detachment, solitude, scrutinizing, anonymity.

BUT IN ADDITION, CHARA KARAKAS, must be considered:
Charakarakas make a totally individual statement as to what does a planet indicate in your destiny. In particular, Eclipse on Atmakaraka AK (Soul Indicator) is very significant.

AK = the Atmakaraka the indicator of the soul and the self (also called Atma) and also our health. Our most important planet. It represents an unfinished task of prime importance left over from our past life. Predictive periods ruled by or involving your Atmakaraka can be especially trenchant and turbulent as our soul seeks to put our life on ‘spiritual course’.
AmK =  Amatyakaraka the indicator of our advisors and counsellors, and profession
BK = Bratikaraka the indicator of siblings and our teacher/guru and those close to us
MK = Matrikaraka the indicator of the mother and maternal relatives, and also those who support and nourish us
PiK = Pitrikaraka the indicator of the father (and paternal relatives) and also bosses and employers and authority figures
PuK = Putrakaraka the indicator of children and also our students and followers
GK = Gnatikaraka the indicator of our rivals and enemies, as well as kinsmen and relatives
DK = Darakaraka the indicator of the marriage partner or lover.  This is also seen for wealth and business
Ketu the South Node of the Moon does not represent ‘worldly life’: he is the karaka of enlightenment, the path of the soul towards moksha, which is the exact opposite of worldly life.

House Affected by an Eclipse:
So, let’s look, next, at the House that this Eclipse falls in, in your Vedic birth Chart:
This Table also shows which Houses a planet indicates, and this must be taken into account if the Eclipse falls on that planet: Here’s two example of what’s affected if the Eclipse falls in your 6th House or your 8th House, and do look at the general ‘How to interpret an Eclipse’ Video/Blog for fuller detail:

6th House – (Mars, Saturn) enemies, debts, health and disease, work and service, foreigners, pets, enemies, effort, resistance to illness, immune system. Our capacity to do hard labour – overcome physical obstacles / enemies.

8th House – (Saturn) sex, death, the occult, dark / hidden side of life, longevity, research, destruction / regeneration of any sort. Through the 8th house we confront our mortality. It can determine the ultimate meaning of our lives.

PurvAshadha, The Nakshatra affected by this Eclipse:
Lastly, I’d like to look at this brief excerpt about Nx 20. PurvaAshadha. This is the Nakshatra that this Eclipse falls in, as due to the upcoming Saturn-Ketu-Pluto conjunction these people will be especially experiencing energies of awesome dimensions:
PurvAshadha Nakshatra spans: 13°20′ to 26°40′ Sagittarius / Dhanus
Padas are: Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio
Ruled by Venus (Venus Dasa : 20 years)
Translation: The Former Unsubdued. PurvAshadha means “early victory”.
Power Animal/Yoni: Male Monkey
Motivation: Moksha
Guna Triplicity: Sattva, Rajas and Tamas
Ayurvedic Dosha: Pitta
Body Part: Back
Gana: Human
Quality: Fierce

PurvAshadha Key Words:
Strength and Victory. Invincible: they smash through anything in their way. Proud, independent. Obstinate and can’t be influenced by others. Their symbol, the fan denotes superiority.
They have an intense conviction that they cannot lose, and they have the ability to come out on top – and a times this can be misplaced or positively malign for the effect they will have on others. it is not an impatient energy; but it is implacable – and can, of course, be unrealistic or inappropriate. Fearless and controlling. Social climbers. Oratorical, obstinate and aggressive.
Blind to their own flaws and in self-denial.
Often creative and talented.
Often supported through many friends.
Full of their own opinions and judgmental.
They are orientated towards Moksha, but in their search for Moksha, they are over-expansive, and their overexpansion and opinionated nature can crush or disregard others.
Their Pitta orientation makes them fiery and forceful, inspirational and charismatic.
Their rulership by Venus can so often tend them to pursue illusion and deception, and because this couples with their mental aggression, the resultant mix is unstoppable.
They tend to develop influence, ambitious and fearless, always improving, ambitious to improve their life situation.
They have deep emotions, philosophical.
They are confrontational, angry, harsh.
As regards spiritual path, this Nakshatra can be formulaic and implacable, devotional but dogmatic. They can have a deeply philosophical or religious nature, but they do need to strip away their ego otherwise their spiritual path can crush others.
They have an ability to influence the masses.
Purva Ashadha can bring fame, wealth, fertility and wisdom.
They can have flashes of inspiration and insight. There can be phases or purification and regeneration. The meaning of life can suddenly be revealed to them.
They need to maintain purity, but often a false purity becomes a supreme and destructive and can be formulaic agenda.
