Here’s an impressive post from Maggie Pashley about Hypnotherapy: As a therapist it’s always uplifting to receive feedback like the two I received recently from a hypnotherapy client who had been nervous about a job interview . The first one read ‘The interview went very well and I was very calm during my presentation , thank you ever so much for your help’ followed shortly by ‘I got offered the job and am very pleased and relieved. Thank you so much for all your help. I wouldn’t hesitate to use you again’.
Hypnotherapy didn’t get the job for my client. He got it on his own merit. He was skilled, very experienced, on the ball and had excellent people skills. I would have given him the job! However, his nerves nearly got the better of him. He wasn’t sleeping well in the run up to this important interview and he kept imagining the presentation he had to do going wrong (a case of self-hypnosis working against you!!).
So what changed and what allowed him to actually enjoy the interview and do his best at the various stages of what was a very thorough and potentially challenging interview?
Well, first of all, I showed him a simple tapping routine called EFT which is great for calming nerves. I got him to imagine doing the interview and check what happened in his body – tightness in chest, nervousness in stomach and then we began tapping. The nerves came down even while imagining the same scenario. He now had a new stress relieving tool he could use in any situation.
Then we moved on to hypnotherapy. In this case, it was simply a case of allowing him to go into a really relaxed state and use the power of his imagination to imagine himself doing everything easily, naturally, focussed and relaxed, even enjoying the interview. And he did. And even better the phone call saying he’d got the job.
Over the years, I’ve helped people pass driving tests, study for exams, do public speaking and feel more confident in many different situations. Hypnotherapy can’t give you skills and abilities you don’t have, but it can help you deliver the ones you do have more effectively and it can help you learn the things you need to learn more easily.

Maggie and I just bought one of Tracey Wright’s Ogham stick sets. It is lovely to be able to draw an Ogham stick for daily guidance, or for divination. Each stick is made out of the wood of the actual tree whose letter of the Celtic Ogham Tree Alphabet it bears. So it is a very special bonus to be able to feel the actual tree. The sticks and bag are beautifully scented with essential oils. The bag is unbelievably beautiful and evocative. You can see details of Tracey and her work at the bottom of this web page: http://www.earthstarweb.com/ogham-tree-alphabet.html
Shiva Churning the Milk Ocean
March 9 2013 is Maha Shivaratri, the great night of Shiva. On Maha Shivaratri it is traditional to stay up all night, immersed in devotion for Lord Shiva, increasing in the mind in the energy of Shiva.
The churning of the milk ocean happened at the beginning of time, both the Demi-gods and demons sought to extract the nectar of immortality from the immense milk ocean at the center of the universe.
(The Milk Ocean is a symbol of the Milky Way galaxy, Mula Lunar Sign, which the Sun conjuncted on the Winter Solstice 2012. The Sun won’t be there again on Winter Solstice for another 25,800 years!)
But neither the Demi-gods nor the Demons (the forces of ‘good’ and ‘evil’, our light and shadow sides) were strong enough to do it on their own, so they joined forces. Both our light side and our shadow side must be involved fully if we are to have the nectar!
But once they started churning the ocean, an enormous amount of poison emerged. They stirred it up from the bottom. It was so horrific it threatened to destroy all of creation. So, to avert catastrophe, they called on Lord Shiva. They asked Him to drink all the poison.
This Lord Shiva managed to do. He drank all the evil, then transmuted it within himself, and thus he saved creation, because this allowed for the immortal nectar to be extracted. However, the poison might have destroyed Lord Shiva as well, had he actually swallowed it. Maybe even he could be overwhelmed by our Shadow? So, instead, he held it in his throat, and transmuted it. That is why he is sometimes portrayed blue. One of his forms is called “the blue throated one” (Neelakanthaya). He holds the poison of our darkness in his throat and transmutes it – so that we can live.
This is a story about the need to tread a tantric road to salvation: one which involves both our light and our shadow.
The moral of this story is: It is no good ungroundedly imagining images of light and ascension, and gushing awesome etc, if we ignore our very own huge shadow demon creeping up behind us!
