Jupiter, the Jupiter Transits 2017 and the Jupiter-Uranus Opposition

Revolution is offered to some in 2017 by the transiting Jupiter-Uranus opposition. Big Questions:

How does it interact with your birth chart??

And how does the 2017 Jupiter transit affect your chart, your life?

By the way, Jupiter is transiting on top of my Sun, and Uranus on top of my Moon three times this year.

Charts for the three hits of the Jupiter-Uranus transiting opposition are below.

First of all, see the Beetles’ hymn to Revolution:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGLGzRXY5Bw

On Aug. 26, 1968, the Beetles launched their Apple Records label with their new single, John Lennon’s political hymn to Revolution. Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, Venus and Mercury were all conjunct as the song was being written.

So, how do you understand the transits of Jupiter and Uranus, now, in your life, in 2017? First of all:

Meet Jupiter:

Jupiter gives us purpose. we are lost if we have no purpose to our lives, no purpose to what we do.

Jupiter is Brihaspati in Vedic Astrology: Jupiter is Guru divine energy. In Parashara, Jupiter is described as follows: ‘He is intelligently and endowed with all th branches of learning.’ He is the generous spiritual teacher and guide. He cares for our Dharma, the law of our inner nature, he shows us the guiding principles of our life, our own personal guiding light of truth, such as is indicated by the position of Jupiter in our birth chart. He insists on following of the good, and he shares law, religion and philosophy.

He is different from and goes beyond the conceptual knowledge of Mercury, which allows for attention to detail and clarity of articulation. Jupiter by contrast offers towards us an Intelligence that goes back to the impetus of the Eternal, back to the cosmic Intelligence, and so he is our Immanent divine. And his being is a creative force, and thus Jupiter in our birth chart can tell us about our karma for our children.

He is different from and he goes beyond Venus, because Venus is devoted to beauty and art, but Jupiter projects expansive creativity growing out of cosmic principles. He delights in expansion and unfoldment and sharing. He impels us toward our own individual inner fulfillment, doing what we enjoy, our own special spiritual mission, and as such guides us to our ideal career in this life.

Jupiter is positive and optimistic, and thus if we hear him we can find in sorrow the hidden gem. His expansion is daring and can know no limits. He can give you luck and abundance, prosperity and success, winning even when you don’t feel you have the winning hand, the great and unexpected inheritance. He gives us health, vitality and good immune system. In the realm of colour, his is yellow abundance.

Jupiter is the Priest who embodies faith, inspiration and divine worship and radiates grace beneficence and love.

Jupiter is the husband who is devoted and provides and protects.

But if our own personal reception of the God, Jupiter, is incorrect and karmically skewed, we could lose through ungrounded fizzy over-optimism and inadequate attention to detail and truth, over-spend, over-borrow, and go wildly beyond all resources, if our reception of his blessing is overly materialistic, we create the gaudy cage to preen in, we glitter with spa town show rather than be a good person. We gorge on luxury and neglect the simple homely truth and beauty. We live as if in a showy parade. If we are a priest, our teaching is just a matter of form and legalism.

Vision Journey: Let’s do a vision journey to meet Jupiter.

And now let’s study Jupiter in western and Vedic Astrology. A major theme of my astrology is the need to combine both western and Vedic Astrology  for the fullest declaration. It’s a principle offered in all my worldwide readings and courses. see: www.starwheelastrology.com , www.enlightenedastrologycourse.com and www.mastervedicastrology.com.

So: what’s the difference between western and Vedic astrology? Well, remember that Vedic astrology depicts our incarnational destiny and uses the Sidereal Zodiac, but western astrology depicts how we experience things psychologically and uses the tropical zodiac.

Jupiter is Brihaspati in Vedic Astrology: Jupiter is Guru divine energy. Jupiter is the Great Benefic, also called ‘Guru’. Jupiter is expansion of consciousness and also expansion of material things. Jupiter is divine grace, philosophic knowledge, happiness and joy. He is the indicator for children, spirituality, luck, fortune, affluence and creativity, faith in life, long-distance travel, optimism, and speculation. Jupiter shows us the way to health.

But Negatively placed in the chart, Brihaspati can be too materialistic, over-optimistic, over-expansive, exceeding resources, and too full of himself and self-indulgent.
And Jupiter is traditionally regarded as the indicator of the woman’s husband (though Mars can be indicative of the man in her passionate relationships).
Jupiter rules the Vedic signs Sagittarius and Pisces. Jupiter is most Exalted at 5 Cancer and is most deeply Fallen at 5 Capricorn. Jupiter is Mulatrikona 0 – 10 Sagittarius.
Jupiter functions best in Cancer and his best House is the first.
Jupiter’s friends are Sun, Moon and Mars.
Mercury and Venus are enemies to Jupiter.
Saturn is neutral to Jupiter

This document studies Jupiter’s 2017 transits in both Vedic and Western Astrology.

In Vedic Astrology, in 2017, Jupiter transits from Virgo to Vedic Libra. He starts off 2017 in the Vedic Sign Virgo, moving into Vedic Libra on 12th September 2017. So in terms of the Nakshatras, the wonderful 27-sign Lunar Zodiac, Jupiter is transiting through the highly creative if temperamental Chitra Nakshatra (where I have my Sun – but I don’t do the temperamental bit – obviously!).

In Western Astrology, Jupiter is transiting from western Libra to western Scorpio. He starts 2017 at 21 deg western Libra in January 2017, entering western Scorpio on 11th October 2017, and ending the year at 16 deg western Scorpio.

Jupiter is Retrograde from 7th Feb 2017 to 11th May 2017
Jupiter’s 2017 Transits in Vedic Astrology:

Jupiter transits Vedic Virgo: So, how do we experience the energy of Jupiter when he transits vedic sign of Virgo?  Well, improvements in health and health management, improvements in right living, professionalism and organisation and administration. Virgo is ruled by Mercury. But as Jupiter can bring over-expansion: putting on weight.

Jupiter transits Vedic Libra: So, how do we experience the energy of Jupiter when he transits vedic sign of Libra?  He brings romance, expanded love, balance in relationships, love of art, music, beauty, and luxury; spiritual and humanitarian mindset, comfort and gains. Success for Libra Suns.
But negatively he’s too indulgent, bringing also legal problems, romantic entanglements, misunderstood intentions, kidney, liver and blood sugar imbalances, fat or fluid build-up, exaggeration, overdoing things. A big thing to remember is that both Jupiter and Venus (the ruler of Libra) are Guru in Vedic Astrology, but they are very different sorts of guru and they don’t synchronise or get on. So, Jupiter is spiritual and religious; Venus is involved with finding our spiritual ethic through art and pleasures and love.

Jupiter’s 2017 Transits in Western Astrology:

Jupiter transits western Libra: What do we experience from Jupiter’s transits through western Libra? Jupiter in Libra will tend to bring us expansion of comfort, love and sexuality. Diplomacy and expansion of concepts and ideas. New ways for connecting with other people. And, yes, too much people-pleasing.

Jupiter transits western Scorpio:  How do we experience Jupiter in western Scorpio? With Jupiter in Scorpio, we try to attract success by intensity and putting our all into our life and work. our magnetic energy and zeal increases and can get just too much. But so also can our negative suspicious side mushroom! We can lose side of the needed big picture as we pursue enthusiasms, or, if we are inclined that way, our hurt and vengeance scenarios will grow.

The Transiting Jupiter – Uranus Opposition:

But there’s a very big twist to the tail. Jupiter transits opposition Uranus in the heavens in 2017.  The transiting opposition is exact three times. The charts for these three moments are set out below:
1. December 27, 2016 at 20 degrees western Libra-Aries
2. March 7, 2017 at 22 degrees western Libra-Aries
3. September 27, 2017 at 27 degrees western Libra-Aries.

Vision Journey: Let’s do a vision journey to meet Uranus.

Because the two are so bound together in 2017, we also need to meet Uranus in order to predict what will be going on, and decide how we can maximise the benefits, guard against the dangers, and know how this great force will interact with our own individual birth chart.

Uranus: Nature:

Uranus was discovered 1781 during the French and American Revolutions. That is when his energy entered the human consciousness: Freedom, independence, revolution and rebellion. Break from the old, break from tradition. The blade of the guillotine fell as the evil French aristocracy was toppled. The Catholic Church lost its grip on Europe a little bit more. The Enlightenmet spread (only to be balanced up by the Romantic Revival). The Boston Tea Party threw the exploiting British Colonialists out, and the USA was formed as a model of Liberty and Democracy. At least these were the ideals!!!

The mythic truth of Uranus proves his energy was totally needed – but not easy. He was the Sky God and he mated with the Earth Mother Gaia. But he was dissatisfied with his children. So he ate them or imprisoned them in Tartarus. Gaia was distraught, and so when Cronos or Saturn was born, she hid him from his father. And when Saturn grew up he castrated his father. And where the severed genitals fell on land, the Furies were born: The Eumenides; never cross them! There is no escape! Look what happened to Oedipus! And where the severed genitals fell in the ocean, Aphrodite was born amidst the foam. And Cronos took over as the new king of heaven, or tyrant (because he imprisoned his children instead!)

So, the energy of the astrological Uranus, positively, is the inventive pioneer, the scientific discoverer, the iconoclast, the revolutionary. Gandhi had Uranus on his Midheaven. But negatively it’s inhuman and ravenous and unconnected with the Earth. So:

JUPITER/URANUS – Let’s look at what this vast combination means:

PRINCIPLE: Sudden release of strain. Optimism, lucky chance, blissful realization, success, Ungroundedness, expansion, over-expansion, luck,

PSYCHOLOGICAL:
+             the desire for knowledge, the aspiration of inner perception, good intuition, fortunate ideas which can be realized, organizing abilities, feel for the new. Quick grasp of a situation. Prudence, far-sightedness. Philosophical interests. love of freedom, urge for independence.
–          obstinate adherence to one’s own principles from inherent awkwardness rather than real conviction. Exaggeration. Inconstancy. Tactlessness. Philosophical or religious conflicts.
BIOLOGICAL:             the organic rhythm, e.g. peristalsis, spastic fits or disorders, convulsions.
SOCIOLOGICAL:        organizers, inventors, adventurers. Fortune hunters.
PROBABLE MANIFESTATIONS:
+    release of tension or strain. fortunate turns in life. Sudden change in destiny. Sudden recognition. Successful speculation.
–     missing opportunities. Arguments on philosophical issues. Excess brings downfall, collapse and ruin.

How will this affect you?

Now, here is more detail on the Jupiter astrology of 2017:

Jupiter 2017:

Vedic astrology: In Vedic Astrology, Jupiter has been transiting through:  Vedic Virgo from 11th August 2016 until 12.9.2017
Jupiter then transits Vedic Libra, and ends 2017 at 23 Vedic Libra.

Western astrology: In Western Astrology, Jupiter is transiting from 21 deg western Libra
But Jupiter enters western Scorpio on 11th October 2017, ending the year at 16 deg western Scorpio.

Jupiter is Retrograde from 7th Feb 2017 to 11th May 2017

Uranus 2017:

Vedic Astrology: In Vedic Astrology, Uranus transits from 26 Vedic Pisces, entering Vedic Aries in May 2017.
But Uranus turns retrograde in August 2017, and retrogrades right back to the Vedic Aries Gandanta zero point in January 2018.
So, in terms of the wonderful Nakshatras, the 27-sign Lunar Zodiac of vedic Astrology, when Uranus is in Pisces, this is Revati nakshatra at the end of Pisces, and when Uranus is in Aries, this is Ashwini Nakshatra at the start of Aries.

Western astrology: In Western Astrology, Uranus is transiting western Aries all 2017: between 20 and 28 deg western Aries.

Uranus is Retrograde from 4th August 2017 to 4th January 2018.

Uranus and the difficult Gandanta zone: Note that Uranus makes four Pisces/Aries Gandanta crossings as part of this Transit:
28.6.16, 31.8.16, 8.4.17 and 2.1.18
The Gandanta Zones are the transition from the dissolution at the end of a Vedic astrology water sign to the first flicker of fire in a Vedic astrology fire sign: so, Pisces to Aries, Cancer to Leo and Scorpio to Sagittarius.

Other relevant Gandanta Crossings and Eclipses

Note that in 2017 there are actually Three Transits through all three of the Vedic Astrology Gandanta Zones:

a. Saturn Gandanta: Saturn transiting the Abhukta Mula Gandanta zone between sidereal Scorpio and sidereal Sagittarius. Jyestha to Mula Nakshatras. Saturn will cross the difficult Gandanta Zone between Scorpio and Sagittarius around 26th January, 21st June and 26th October 2017.
Saturn grinds away at patterns we must let go of. Saturn in the Gandanta Zone offers us opening to our vastness, especially if we have a planet there. But Saturn here can lead to economic or national political crisis.

Uranus transiting the sidereal Pisces-Aries Gandanta zone: Revati to Ashwini Nakshatras. The last time Uranus transited here and entered Vedic Aries, on his 84-year orbit of our Sun, saw the rise of Adolph Hitler, the creation of the Third Reich, genocide and World War. Uranus will occupy the Gandanta degree four times:
28.6.16, 31.8.16, 8.4.17 and 2.1.18 (this last one just a tiny fraction short of the zero point)

Mars and Rahu (North Node) Gandanta: transiting the sidereal Cancer-Leo Gandanta zone: Ashlesha to Magha Nakshatras. Mars and Rahu enter Cancer and are in Gandanta 18.1.17. The Solar Eclipse is 21.8.17 (see below. This one is terrible).
In fact Mars has Mars has two 2017 gandanta crossings and one in early 2018:
2.3.2017 through Pisces-Aries Gandanta:
11.7.17 through Cancer-Leo Gandanta
7.3.18 through Scorpio Sagittarius Gandanta.

The Four Eclipses of 2017:

February 11 – Lunar Eclipse
February 26 – Solar Eclipse
August 7 – Lunar Eclipse
August 21 – NB this 4th 2017 Eclipse is a Total solar eclipse and is visible all across U.S. and situated on Donald Trump’s ascendant).

The transiting Jupiter-Uranus Opposition:

Much of the time in 2017, Jupiter and Uranus are in opposition in the heavens.

Jupiter in western Libra will oppose Uranus in western Aries, exact, on these three dates, at these degrees of the western zodiac:
